The Spirit of God is the Spirit of Love

The fruit of the Spirit is a singular word, not a plural. We don't have apples, bananas and pears growing from the same tree. In the same way the fruit of the Spirit is one thing, one fruit, and that is Love. All the other examples (fruit) listed are aspects of this Divine Love.

When we show love for one another, we also walk in joy, peace, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control.

It all hinges on Love: God is love (1John 4:7-8) The fruit of the Spirit is love (Gal 5:22) They will know us by our love for one another (John 13:35) The greatest commandment (Mark 12:29 - 31)

Love is a divine resource and it is only because we have the Spirit that we are able to love one another (Romans 5:5, 1 John 4:7). There is something given to a believer when they become born again- a Love that they did not have before is imparted to their life through the Spirit. It is the Love of God in their hearts and it shines through them as they begin to walk in the Spirit
